Thomas Crompton are a Bradford based specialist demolition and excavations business. They work across the UK and have been in operation for over 20 years. Their aim is to provide a top-class, efficient and effective demolition service.

Challenge
Thomas Crompton was experiencing challenges in communications between their tipper and plant drivers, and between their operations team and drivers. This was resulting in a reduction in both efficiency and productivity. Jobs were missed and collaboration between the operations team and the management team at HQ was suffering. Thomas Crompton recognised the need to improve communications urgently and identified that Storm’s push-to-talk over cellular (PTToC) application, powered by Mobile Tornado, could do this.

The Storm team worked very closely with Thomas Crompton to address the challenges they were facing. Following a detailed investigation of the challenges, Storm was able to propose a solution and our PTToC application, which is powered by Mobile Tornado software, was deployed on Telo M6 L devices and installed into 70 Thomas Crompton’s wagons. Thomas Crompton also installed two of Storm’s world-class dispatch consoles at their Yorkshire HQ, enabling the dispatcher to speak to individual drivers as well as groups of drivers. The PTToC application enables live tracking of driver location and an SOS button on the device means that drivers can notify both the dispatcher and other drivers in the event of an emergency, allowing help to be sent faster.

Results
Since introducing Storm’s PTT solution, Thomas Crompton has seen huge improvements in both efficiency and revenue. Clearer instructions can be provided to the wagon drivers and using the live location tracking feature, the operations team are able to send drivers to the jobs they are closest to,
saving time and improving efficiency. This has added one more load per day per wagon. The SOS emergency alerting provides additional peace of mind to the management team that the operatives are safe whilst on site and can call for help in the event of an emergency. The increased efficiency has led to heightened customer satisfaction, financial savings and an increase in revenue, meaning that Thomas Crompton has released a quick return on investment on Storm’s solution.

“Working with Storm has been great from start to finish. The team work has been fantastic and the support from the Storm team has been superb. Storm’s solution has surpassed all our expectations. The increase we’ve seen in productivity means that the solution is already paying for itself. Our drivers have embraced the system and it is reassuring to know that they are safe and able to contact us in the event of an emergency.”
Maragret Crompton, director at Thomas Crompton.
